The Healing Process: What to Expect After Brow Tattooing

If you've just gotten your brows microbladed, feathered, or had any other form of cosmetic brow tattooing like nano brows, you're likely eager to see the final results! But it's important to be patient through the healing process first. Here's what you can expect after your brow tattoo appointment and tips for proper aftercare.

The first week

For the first 3-5 days after your brow tattoo session, your eyebrows will be very bold, dark, and intense looking. Don't panic! This is totally normal. Initially, the pigment will appear sharper and bolder until the inflammation subsides. Your brows may also feel slightly itchy or sting a bit. This is all part of the normal healing process.

Around days 4-7, your brows will start to get flakier and peel. It may look like chunks of your brows are falling off, but it's just the top layers of skin shedding to reveal your fresh ink underneath. Let the skin naturally exfoliate itself and avoid picking or scrubbing, as this could pull out pigment.

Toward the end of the first week, your brows will likely be noticeably lighter and softer looking. This is when the true colour and hair-like strokes will start to show. Redness and tenderness should also decrease.

The touch up appointment

Around 4-6 weeks after your initial brow tattoo appointment, you'll go back for a quick touch up session. This allows for any missing hair strokes to be filled in and for colour to be perfected now that swelling has fully subsided. The touch up is usually much quicker than the original session.

Long term care

Once your brows are fully healed after 4-6 weeks, minimal care is required. Avoid scrubbing directly on your brows when washing your face, and don't pick at any lingering dry skin which could pull out ink. Use a gentle face wash and avoid direct water pressure.

To keep your cosmetic brow tattoos looking fresh, schedule maintenance touch ups every 12-18 months. Touch ups allow for any fading to be reduced. Avoid any chemical peels or laser treatments on the brow area, as these can cause premature fading of brow pigment.

Follow proper aftercare and be patient through the healing process to get the best long lasting results from your investment in cosmetic brow tattooing. Within a few weeks, you'll be loving your flawlessly filled, natural looking brows!
